April 30 - May 6 of 365

Crystal Creek 120 / 365
We went for a drive up Mt Spec into the rainforest. This is Crystal Creek where we stopped on our way up.

Hang on 121 / 365
He looks like he's hanging on for the ride :)

Little birds 122 / 365
The grass is growing thicker and higher than I've seen it in a long time and the little birds are loving it. Each morning we look out to see them having quite a feast.

Blue Moon 123 / 365
Hypolimnas bolina (Varied eggfly, Common eggfly, Blue moon)
I think blue moon is a lovely name. I will probably only see one of these every blue moon ;-) This girl has been knocked around a bit but still beautiful. The colour was really refracting in the afternoon sun and giving a lovely purple/blue tinge to the wings.

Bird 'n bokeh 124 / 365
I took this on our trip to Mt Spec last weekend. I was about to take the photo and this little guy turned around and smiled for me. That might be stretching the truth a little ;-) He's just a little thing, maybe a couple of inches long.

Jade's Birthday Jackson was eager to help.
Rhoeo 125 / 365
Variegated Rhoeo or Moses in the Cradle with a couple of droplets.

St Andrews Cross Spider 126 / 365
More droplets!

April 23 - 29 of 365

My world 113 / 365
I would love one of the crystal balls I've seen some 365ers with. This paper weight was all I could find. This is my front garden refracted in the globe. It's a snowglobe without the snow ;-)

Early morning fog 114 / 365
Our town clock rising out of the fog. Whenever we have fog it means a warm day. It was a very sunny 30C.
It's a bit nicer enlarged :)

Blue-banded Eggfly (Hypolimnas alimena) 115 / 365
This butterfly has been in my garden for weeks now. Most days I try to get a shot of her but she only keeps her wings open for a second. She seemed to be sunning herself so I took the opportunity for a quick snap. It's still not great but probably as good as I'm going to get.

Water fun 116 / 365
The kids were having some fun under the sprinkler.

The Strand Jetty 117 / 365
Townsville.

Blue Wanderer 118 / 365
I spent quite some time trying to catch a shot of a Ulysses butterfly. There was a couple flying around on the Strand today. While I was waiting for it to come back this lady landed right in front of me.
Tirumala hamata (Blue tiger, Blue wanderer)

Marina 119 / 365
I was taking some photos at the Marina and came across this old fellow contemplating life... It's my hubby, waiting patiently :)
This is on the Strand in Townsville and the Casino is in the background.

April 16 - 22 of 365

Reflections 106 / 365
We were out for a drive today and I noticed this reflection at the side of the road. This is actually nothing like our countryside usually looks, the exact opposite in fact. The dead tree is a bit of a giveaway.

MMM (Common Crow) on Duranta 107 / 365
I found a beautiful butterfly today and chased it all around the garden. It was red, yellow and white. I captured it but not as sharply as I would like. Whereas my little MMM was happy to pose for me. The MMM refers to the markings on the wings and it's my name for this butterfly which is actually a Common Crow. I'm slowly learning the names of the butterflies around here thanks to other 365ers helping me out.

Caterpillar?! 108 / 365
This is some kind of water plant I have in my pond. When I looked at the shot I think I found the world's smallest caterpillar. You might need the magnifier to see it ;-)

Whiskey 109 / 365
This is our neighbour's beautiful cat asking if I really needed to wake her up for this photo.

Gentle giant 110 / 365
My grandson Jackson's little fingers and the gentle touch of his Great Dane puppy Maddie.

Butterfly dream 111 / 365
This is one of the butterflies I've been chasing in my garden. I didn't get a really clear shot of her so I decided I would have a bit of fun in photoshop.
She is a Northern or Scarlet Jezebel (Delias argenthona) - don't you just love that name!

Hibiscus refraction 112 / 365
I haven't tired of refractions yet. I still think they are amazing.

April 9 - 15 of 365

Chel 99 / 365
Chel and I went for a walk on Sandgate beach today.

Shadows 100 / 365
Amelia and I were having a bit of fun with the early morning light through the window.

Crocus Droplets 101 / 365
I've had a busy couple of days in Brisbane so I'm trying to fill in the missing days.

On the road again 102 / 365
We were on our way home today but a truck rollover on the Mingela Range had the highway closed for 15 hours. It took us 1 1/2 hours to travel about 5 kilometres when half of the highway opened.

Elusive Butterfly 103 / 365
I've been trying to get a shot of this beauty since my granddaughters spotted her a few weeks ago. I had to pull out the telephoto and a chair to shoot her up in the Tamarind tree.
I'm not sure if she is Papilio aegeus (Orchard butterfly/Citrus swallowtail butterfly)

Bringin' back the chives 104 / 365
Chives seem to be my standby plant. I decided to play with the flash and refraction tonight. If you use the magnifier you can see the flower refracted in the droplets.

Shell Ginger 105 / 365
Just a quick snap shot of my shell ginger. Not one bit creative today! Maybe I'll get some inspiration tomorrow.

April 2 - 8 of 365

Fairy Princess 92 / 365
We have our own little fairy princess that grants wishes with the touch of a heliconia flower?! Today Amelia was flowergirl for her one of her mummy's best friends. I had the honour of making her little outfit.

Orange Bush-Brown Butterfly (Mycalesis terminus) 93 / 365
I thought this was a moth. It's smaller than a regular butterfly. I have been trying to catch one of these with it's wings open. They are a really pretty orange but the pattern on the outside is gorgeous too. She's sitting on a Dianella leaf.

Orange Bush-Brown Part II 94 / 365
I made an effort to catch yesterday's butterfly with it's wings open to show the pretty detail and colour. They seem to be everywhere in my garden at the moment.

Hibiscus Starburst 95 / 365
My pink hibiscus looking very... pink :)

Diamonds in the Rough 96 / 365
Silver Orb Spider - Leucauge granulata (L. dromedaria). Also known as Silver Camel Spider. They are quite pretty spiders but the glistening web won out on this day.

Crumpet anyone? 97 / 365
This is a filler. I'm in Brisbane at Chel's house.
I thought the texture was a bit similar to a crumpet? Mmmm... you could be right, nothin' like a crumpet :)

Wheeee! 98 / 365
Meels was having lots of fun on the swing today.

March 26 - April 1 of 365

Meelsy Moo 85 / 365
The little Meels and her mummy @chel are visiting for a week. This is in the car after the two hour flight, quick visit to see great-grandma, back in the car for the hour and half drive home. The glistening of her eyes shows that she had just about had enough for one day thank you.
I must add that this is her first taste of Macca's fries!

Dripping Tap 86 / 365
This is a shot that so many people have done really well and I wanted to try. I need more practice but it was really hard to freeze those drops and get the flowers refracted clearly. Getting the tap to drip slowly is also hard.

Amelia 87 / 365
I have to make the most of having little Meels around for a week, so here she is again :)

Not chives again! 88 / 365
Yes, I'm sorry. It rained most of the day and I noticed the drops on the chives... so that's it for today. You can see some refraction in a few of them.

Rock Pool 89 / 365
We've been in Townsville for a couple of days but I actually took this one a few days earlier. We had lunch at the restaurant at the Rock Pool on the Strand. This was the view from our table, pretty nice!

Water Park 90 / 365
We went to the water park on the Strand in Townsville today. It was overcast so not too hot. Amelia loved it!

Golden Bowl 91 / 365
This bowl was a gift, it has beautiful golden tones that the candle light reflected on.

March 19 - 25 of 365

Frangi 78 / 365
This is a filler for yesterday. We had a lovely day with the rellies!

Butterfly on hibiscus 79 / 365
I thought it was pretty neat that this lady obligingly landed on a red hibiscus for me.

Come on then! 80 / 365
The roos come up to our back fence and some are so used to people that they don't jump away unless we get quite close. They always like to sit on the rocks for a bit of extra height.

The grass is always greener 81 / 365
I kinda liked the line of the grass across the shot. The droplet on the left has a nice sky reflection although a bit hard to see. And the little sunflare took my eye also but it's probably a bit too monotone?
I was flat on my belly for this, that must count for some kind of exercise?

Chives Part IV 82 / 365
This is the last of the chives story.

Blowin' in the wind 83 / 365
This looks better magnified I think?

Nature's parasol 84 / 365
Can you just imagine a butterfly using one of these? A beetle or caterpillar?
