Undarra Lava Tubes and camping trip, August 2012

We went north with Ingrid and Tony to camp on their families' property. We camped at the junction of two creeks/rivers. It was a beautiful spot. We then made a day trip to the lava tubes.
This is one of the tubes formed when the lava cooled on the outside but kept running through the centre. The tubes are only discovered after an event like an earthquake causes the top of the tube to cave in as you can see in this shot. It was quite amazing to consider how these caves were formed.

I love the white trunk of this gum tree (eucalyptus). They look even nicer in the late afternoon light.

While we were there, there was fishing, gold fossicking and lots of sitting round the camp fire, I loved it. The thing I didn't love was getting home and finding a tick on me!

I managed to catch this pelican taking off.

  1. Oh, there are some of these I haven't seen before. Love the Kukabarra (sp). You really got to see some great wildlife. Are the cattle on someone's land, they're not wild are they? That first photo is just beautiful, it takes you right through the photo!
